Background Information

Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, located in southwestern Uganda, is one of the country’s smallest but most stunning national parks. Established in 1991, it covers approximately 33.7 square kilometers. The park is renowned for its majestic mountain scenery, diverse wildlife, and habitat for endangered mountain gorillas.

Location

The Park is situated in southwestern Uganda, approximately 15 kilometers south of Kisoro town, and lies near the borders of Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The park shares international boundaries with Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda to the south and Virunga National Park in the DRC to the west, while domestically it borders Kisoro District to the north and east, forming a unique transboundary conservation area.
